December is
often a slow month as of course many people are thinking about
the festivities ahead. However we turn our attention to
some hard core fishing and Pete Tyjas and I have been enjoying
a lot of success fly fishing for Pike. A report
follows. For those of you more interested in organising Christmas
presents I would like to bring to your attention our popular gift
vouchers, perfect for the complete novice or improving
anglers. You can find out more here.
We are also very pleased to be able to offer a number of Henry
Gilbeys full colour photographs for sale. These
thought provoking shots are inspirational for any angler and
make a great present for those who have everything. We will
soon have a page available but for the moment please call 01398
331660 or e
mail for details. Have a great
Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you all for
the 2005 season, it's going be great!

Fly
Fishing for Pike - Exploring New venues
During
the season it really does get busy, so the chance to
get away and try new venues doesn't come along that
often. However during winter we get a little
more time in between updating the web site or working
on magazine articles. Pete Tyjas now works with
Nick Hart Fly Fishing as a full time instructor and
holds the Level 2 qualification. He and I not
only work together but also try and get out weekly to
fish somewhere and when possible we make it a new
venue. Both of us have the Pike bug and decided
that during December we should find some new venues
and see if we could get their resident toothy critters
interested in our bits of fluff! We certainly
managed just that with several Pike on each
trip. Pete came up with the first venue, a lake
which is not only beautiful but also sports very clear
water, ideal for Fly Fishing. The second venue,
a canal, was all my own work and we had some truly
awesome sport there. In fact we caught more than
the lure and dead bait anglers put together! If
you would like to try out these venues for yourself
please call 01398 331660
or email
for a guided trip.

Salmon
Spawning
My new Black Labrador
puppy, Rio, (Spanish for
River by the way!) investigates a dead Salmon on a
tributary of the Exe. During a wet but enjoyable
walk we counted around 30 Salmon over 2 miles of water
without trying very hard. A good few were dead and
a few showed signs of UDN (a fungal disease), however this
is still a sign that we had a decent run of fish and
spawning should have been good. |
