I
was extremely lucky in 2000 to be invited on a Bonefishing
trip to Florida. What's more the destination was the Sport
Fishing capital of the world, Islamorada.
|
 |
Info
: Islamorada
is based along the Florida Keys, which are a series of
islands linked by what is a very straight road.
Flights operate direct to Miami and then it is just a
matter of catching the Greyhound Bus or hiring a car
to make your way to this paradise. |
|
Bonefish
in this area are BIG, many go into double figures and
all are capable of stripping line from a reel at an
alarming rate.
There
is no room for below average gear here, disc drag
reels, good quality lines and fast action rods are a
must. Hooks need to be sharp to penetrate the bony
mouth of these fish, and without Polaroid's spotting
these ghosts of the flats is damn near impossible.

|
Tarpon
: There
are other fish ... plenty of them! Tarpon abound and
while many anglers in the region don't get excited about
what they call babies (30 - 60lbs!) I can only say that
these are a formidable quarry on any tackle, let alone
fly. Other species include Red Fish, Snook, Barracuda,
Permit, Sharks and of course Jacks. This truly is, a fly
fishers dream location. |

|
We do
not provide Bonefish Trips, however if you would like
some tropical sport in the Bahamas we can recommend Bonefish
Adventure or in Orlando Florida with
Captain Gene Zamba
