More
scorching temps in July meant that the Saltwater Fly Fishing
was " Basstastic! " Baitfish were present in
abundance and the "Wolf of the Sea" knew it.
Sea Trouting remained good and as always I had a constant
stream of new anglers turning up to get involved in the great
sport of fly fishing. 22 days were spent on the waters
edge, here are a couple of the highlights.

July 2003
David
Sedgwick has been one of my regular guests for the past
4 years and in that time he has progressed from a
relative novice in to an extremely keen fly
angler. Sporting an immense tackle collection he
has had a go at a bit of everything and after his last
trip has made saltwater fly fishing his number one.
Fishing
firstly with a friend of mine from Clovelly, Sam Rush we
guided him on to a good few Mackerel.
|
|
Now
that Dave had experienced Mackerel for the first time
and been blown away by their awesome power we moved on
to Bass during day 2. We had hoped to get a big
one with Sam the day before, but conditions were
against us and so it was left to me to find the fish
and get Dave into one. And did we find
them? Did we ever ! Within 5 casts Dave
had hit 2 fish, one of which was a decent one and
sadly came away. Then the gulls went mad as the
tide flooded bringing with it masses of small baitfish
desperately fleeing from a marauding pack of hungry
Bass. The sport was electric, and at one point I
truly think David thought he was in heaven!
Have
a look at a couple of the Bass taken on the right
using fly tactics and maybe next time head out to the
coast with your fly rod, it could be worth it! |

21st
to 23rd July 2003 : David
Britten arrived in one of the nicest cars I have ever
seen or had the pleasure to ride in, a fantastic vintage
Rover. Being keen on cars myself Dave and I were
soon nattering away about engines, oil, going fast ...
and then we arrived at the fishery! With
the thoughts of autos at the back of our mind David soon
got to grips with casting and on his first day landed
this superbly conditioned 4lb Rainbow Trout. By
the time he had finished the course he was "Britten"
by the fly fishing bug ( sorry, I had to do it! ) and
will be returning in October for a few more days
enjoying fishing in the Exmoor Countryside. |

Once
again it was time for the 2nd Amersham Common Scouts to
make their pilgrimage from the South East to the South
West. I first met with them 3 years ago, and now
in 2003 even more turned up to try fly fishing,
including a few old faces. Over 4 days 53 scouts
got to grips with casting and catching. Indeed fly
fishing is great for youngsters, there are mind muscle
skills in casting, education regarding the aquatic world
in which trout live, and of course they are away from
those terrible computer consoles ... what could be
better! |
Quotes
from July ...
I
thoroughly enjoyed the company. Your enthusiasm for
fishing is so infectious and the way in which you
instruct
so encouraging, it breaks down a lot of the 'mystique'
that sometimes appears to surround fly fishing. I
was still buzzing about the whole experience when I got
to work on Monday and talking about it for hours. Alasdare
Lambert, London, July 2003. |

What
our guests say ...
I
would just like to say what a fantastic two days we had and how
amazingly different the days were, one day on the lake and one on the
river. It has been a terrific introduction to fly fishing and we are
both chomping at the
bit to have another go. Thanks again for your help and support.

Many
thanks for a great weekend which was most enjoyable and also very
instructive. I know I learnt a great deal.
Mike
Slipper, Swindon, May 2003
The day was one of the most relaxing
and enjoyable that I can remember in a long time - a
superb antidote to the stresses of the office and
probably the best Christmas present I have ever had. Ewan
Davy, Devon, June 2003 Thanks
for a great weekend - it gave me all I wanted and more and left me
with lots to think about and do.
