High temps
almost every day and only a very little of our usual "
English" weather. While this has been great for the
sun tan, the water in our rivers is fast disappearing meaning
there are virtually no Salmon in the system. However the
warm temperatures have made for great night time Sea Trouting
and the Bass are also starting to appear. My
diary shows that we spent 23 days on the waters edge this month so
there is not enough room to post every individual result, but
find out below how just a few of my guests faired during a
scorching June !

12th
June 2003
Ewan Davy received his day out with Nick Hart Fly Fishing as a present
from his wife, and what a day it turned out to be !
Fishing the Broford
Estate Water on the Exe under the guidance of Nick
Hart, Ewan managed to extract this superb Grayling
within just 10 minutes of starting fishing. Not
only was this Ewans first ever Grayling but fittingly
he also works for a company called ... wait for it ...
Grayling !

This
is one of the largest Grayling taken from this venue
during 2003, and Ewan managed several more fish to
finish off a day spent in the sun, by the river, pure
heaven!
Ewan had this to say about his trip
...

Thanks for a fantastic day and for the pictures -
tremendous! The day was one of the most relaxing
and enjoyable that I can remember in a long time - a
superb antidote to the stresses of the office and
probably the best Christmas present I have ever had.
Certainly worth the wait! And to catch a
Grayling - well that was the highlight. All the
guys at Grayling
were highly impressed, and the picture now takes pride
of place on my desk-top. "

June 2003 : Way back
in April Gill Dyde and her husband Tim started a one day
course, but unfortunately after 1 hour it became
impossible due to freezing temperatures and a high
wind. It has always been my policy to give guests
the opportunity to return at a later date in the event
of bad weather, and the Dydes did just that. What
a contrast! The 16th June arrived with blue skies,
hardly any wind and bright sunshine, far more
comfortable. The couple both caught Trout and are
now keen to take up the sport. "
Thanks very much for the photos - and for a great day
out. My trout is in the freezer and Tim's was
dinner on Monday night - delicious! We really
enjoyed ourselves. I've just shown the photos to
my colleague who is a keen fly fisherman and he was most
impressed! " |

June 2003
Mike
Collins from Taunton had already enjoyed one day in the
company of Nick Hart Fly Fishing and returned for a
crack at some Trout during the day, before heading out
on his first ever Sea Trout session. The smile
says it all ! Despite a slow day on the river Mike
could do no wrong in the evening and during a frantic 1
hour spell actually hooked 8 fish on my private beat of
the Torridge. As if 2lbs 2oz of prime Sea Trout
was not enough we also caught sight of 3 Otters, one of
which actually tried to steal Mikes fish!

What

would just like to say what a fantastic two days we had and how
