The season is
here by March, and although the small stillwaters produce fish
year round it is now time for the Rivers to once again open up
their doors. John Yerbury made his opening day a superb
day to remember with his first ever Grayling from the
Westcountry weighing in at well over 1 1/2 lbs, caught on a
very cold day. A credit to his casting and fishing this
was the only rising fish we witnessed all day long, but it
found Johns Klinkhammer dry too good to resist. The
weather was up and down during March but Tom Kenyon, his
brother Will and Wills girlfriend, Emma, hit it just right and
enjoyed one of our popular 2
day courses. Pete and
I spent 17 days out with various guests and we can't fit you all into
the gallery unfortunately but here are a
few of the top March catches. Email
Nick here.

7th
& 8th March 2005
Kevan
Day (and yes, that is Kevan spelt with an
"a"!) has been Coarse Fishing for a number
of years but like many other people who have tried
fishing with baits, over the years he has become more
and more drawn to trying his hand at Fly
Fishing. Booking up a 2 day course Kevan arrived
during some fairly cold weather. However we
wrapped up warm and got out on the Lake, after all, if
your fly isn't in the water .... Over the 2 days
we managed several fish and Kevan is certainly now a
convert to Fly Fishing, here he is with one of his
best fish of the course taken at ever reliable Exe
Valley Fishery. |

March 2004 - Trout open season on West Country Rivers
John Yerbury has
appeared on this web site several times over the
years. He first visited for 2 days of River
Fishing. Then he arrived back with 3 mates, Clive,
Ashley and Matt. We spent a very cold day in the
rain getting them ready for a trip to Spain.
That proved well worth it as they all had a great time
and caught plenty of fish. The following year we
all headed out to Ireland
and despite tough conditions we caught some notable
fish, including a 5lb Mullet
to Clive. In between times I have taken Ashley
to Blagdon on a couple of occassions while helping
Clive with his casting
although he tends to arrive for his guided
fishing days in the rain! John turned up on
opening day and banked this spanking Grayling on a
dry. Later on in the year he returns in hope of a Salmon
or a Sea
Trout. |
