Mark Bailey is 35 and grew up in
Newcastle-under Lyme, Staffs. In early 2007 he made the
journey here to take up a post managing Wimbleball Lake while
also providing courses and tuition on behalf of Nick Hart Fly
Fishing. A cutting edge angler Mark as landed over 600
double figure
Pike on Fly
to 32lbs! He has been a regular contributor to Pike &
Predator magazines the world over and has made many trips to the
Baltic fishing for Pike. Other venues he has fished
include Loch Lomond, Loch Awe, Lough Corrib and Lough Mask.
He has also fished the coasts of Devon, Cornwall. North Wales
and Co Cork. Mark has a burning ambition to take a Shark
on Fly! These days he loves
to hit the small West Country streams, in between camping,
walking and spending many hours practicing casting. |

FLY FISHING
QUALIFICATIONS EXPLAINED:
Nick Hart
& Mark Bailey hold nationally recognised casting
and fishing qualifications. Here is a quick
overview. The Salmon & Trout Association National
Instructors Certificate (STANIC) has been updated to LEVEL 2 by Sport
England who now license coaches. This is a relatively simple
exam to pass and ensures that each
instructor has been on a child protection course, holds a first
aid certificate, has agreed to be checked by the criminal records
bureau and has appropriate insurance. We also hold the
advanced level qualification known as AAPGAI.
This level is aimed at instructors who teach on a
regular basis and in particular requires the candidate
to have expert knowledge in many aspects of fly fishing.
Most important of all we are full time fly fishing
instructors, similar to a golf pro we teach people how
to wield a fly rod instead of a golf club, averaging 300
days per season.
