A few years
ago many anglers hung up their rods in September and forgot
about Fly Fishing until the spring. However, times are
changing rapidly and now that many small stillwaters remain
open throughout the winter, there is a fantastic opportunity
to enjoy some excellent sport while also receiving valuable
casting tuition / practice that
will provide even better results in the seasons to come.
Here are some of the anglers that made up part of the 24 days
that we spent by the waters edge during the month of October.

4th -
6th October 2005 : Bill & Ivy Ashman
Bill
visited with his wife Ivy for some fishing in early
October. Although he is already a keen sea
angler he had little fly fishing experience and so
decided to book one of our courses.
After
a couple of days fishing with Ivy and catching Rainbow
Trout on the Exe Valley fishery, we made for Burton
Springs, a small still water in Somerset. Bill
took a limit of fish while fishing on a catch
and release permit, including this fine Tiger Trout.

9th October 2005 : Nigel
Pullen
Nigel is another one
of our regular customers who started his fly fishing
from scratch just a few years ago during one of our courses.
For this visit Nigel headed for Wimbleball Reservoir and
a boat session. The fishing proved tough but by
varying tactics for Nigel, Nick managed to help him
catch a limit of 7 fish. Most notable moment was
during a spell of quick fire action when both these fish
fell to one cast, landing them certainly proved
interesting!

26th to
30th October 2005 : Stuart Forsyth
Stuart
Forsyth just can't get enough of the Westcountry fishing
and regularly flies down from Scotland to enjoy guided
trips with Nick Hart Fly Fishing. See more of
Stuarts catches in September
2004 and September
2005 For
his October trip we had hoped to get to grips with some
Grayling but massive winds and torrential rain caused
the rivers to swell making them un fishable.
Despite catching a small Pike a few years ago during a
guided trip, we had never really got into a decent Pike
on Fly. Proving that there is great fun to be
had in the traditional close season Stuart was well
pleased with this jack pike taken on fly. |

Just a quick note to say that my husband had a wonderful time on the
fishing trip this weekend. Pete was a great guide and great
company and we would certainly recommend you to anyone else who wants
such a trip.

It
was a genuine pleasure to meet, and be taught by, such an avid angler
and we both hope to meet you again in the future.
