I first
visited Spain in 2001 to fish a new saltwater venue, sadly
over fishing has since seen it's demise. Even so, it is
not all doom and gloom as there are plenty of Wild Trout to be
found within the Pyrenees.

Pyrenees
: Wouldn't
it be great if in the U.K. all you needed to do was
pull up at a pub or restaurant close to a river, buy a
permit and go fishing ? Well if you are fishing the
Spanish Pyrenees this is exactly what you do! A fair
grasp of the lingo is required, and you may face the
odd knock back from locals protecting
"their" fishing. But on the whole you
will be given access to miles of crystal clear
streams, full of wild Brown Trout. |

Getting
there :
There are various modes of transport, a mate of mine
even took his motorbike! If this is a tad
adventurous then all that is needed is a cheap flight
to say Barcelona and then hire a car and drive.
Journey from Barcelona is around 3 - 4 hours.

Saltwater : This
was one of the most exciting things I had seen in fly
fishing for years. A fantastic coastline providing
home to many hard fighting species often only available
on long haul international trips. That was in
2001, sadly in 2002 fishing regulations seemed to disappear
as trawler after trawler plundered the area. I
made my last trip in September 2002 and left absolutely
gutted to find the fish gone. When
will European fishing policy change ? |
